I can't vote for president of the US even though I have a US passport, even though I am a US citizen. Every decision made up there today affects me directly and there is nothing I can do to change it or influence it. I know it's not my place to tell people what to do but...

This man...I believe this man will not only change the US, he will change the world. In fact, I believe he already has. You have the incredible PRIVILEGE of being able to elect Barack Obama today, you can make history today.

I had, up to now, not said a word on the US Presidential Race on my lj, because of this same issue. I can't vote. I can't make my voice heard. But I can. I can tell the US Citizens on my f-list that this is an important day. Think of the last 8 years - how the economy has suffered, how we've had to send our men and women (because PRcans serve in the US Military/Navy/Armed Forces/National Guard) to war. Then think of how this man can bring true change, for the better, not only to the US and PR but to the world.
Go and VOTE. Because every single vote counts. Because it's a right and a duty. Because, and thinking that most of my flist is female, this is what women fought for so many years ago: to get that 50% of the population the right to vote. Because, in the end, that's what makes this a democracy, our ability to go out there and choose our leader.
I'm going out in a bit to vote for the Governor of PR. An important man here, for sure, but not as important as the man who will lead one of the greatest countries in the world.
And if you don't like Obama, ok. But VOTE. Don't let your voice go unheard for pure laziness.
EDIT: I just came back from voting for our Governor and officials. Feels good to vote. Go ahead and try. :D
