I gave blood today for the Red Cross, which, always a cool thing to do, but....  instead of the usual 10mins it should take, I took 30mins to  fill the bag.

Which means, 30mins of a big ass needle in my arm, while I had to open and close my fist over a very hard stress ball, which in turn shifted the needle in my arm every single time.

In short?  OW!

I was told I shouldn't give blood again, because I was right there at the time limit (according to them) and it's not good that I take too long.

I'll probably give again, but not anytime soon.  Maybe it's because of my weight.....

That happened to me last time I gave blood too. When I told the lab tech at my doctor's office she said I had great veins and it was an incompetent lab technician, not me, that was the problem. Of course, if you try again, you could get the same one...

But what a great thing to do. You rock!

I have had that happen to me a few times. I actually donated plasma today (needed some extra cash) and it was pretty uncomfortable since last time I actually got a bruise from it. Since it wasn't sore to the touch they said I could still donate, but they had to put the needle in a slightly higher spot than normal so my arm just wasn't used to it. But it doesn't look like I will have a bruise this time. Think the muscle spasm I had last time was why it did then.

If you are under 8 stone you really shouldn't give weight, in fact over here you aren't allowed to. And some people naturally have thinner or deeper veins, or slower blood flow. Seems odd if you've given before with no problems but could be a number of things that affect it.

I've put donating on hold because my arm is starting to look a little track marked...
